Blanquerna School of Health Sciences
Urinary incontinence is a common condition that affects the quality of life of many patients, especially in key stages such as postpartum or old age. This continuing education course allows healthcare professionals to acquire the necessary tools to evaluate, treat and prevent this dysfunction, using the techniques recommended in the main clinical practice guides.
In addition, the course helps to know how to design personalized and effective treatments, improving the results and quality of life of patients, whether male or female.
Objectives
Learn to perform a complete pelvic floor assessment using techniques such as physical examination and biofeedback.
Develop skills to design individualized treatment plans for patients with urinary incontinence, knowing how to interpret medical urodynamic reports.
Improve skills in teaching and motivating the patient to perform pelvic floor rehabilitation exercises effectively.
Train in innovative treatment techniques, such as the use of electrostimulation and other therapeutic resources (TENS, PTNS and NESA neuromodulation) to improve treatment results.
Develop a deep understanding of the relationship between incontinence and other pathologies such as diastasis or prolapse.
Know the main questionnaires to assess and monitor incontinence in women and men.
Learn about the medical-surgical options in the treatment of incontinence in women and men.
Who is it aimed at?
Graduates in Nursing and Physiotherapy. 3rd and 4th year students from these degree courses.
Course content
The course is structured into two distinct modules: A first mandatory module to be able to access the second, which will consist of a theoretical session taught by a doctor specializing in female and male functional urology. And a second module, where 4 clinical cases with different types of incontinence, patient profile and types of techniques to be applied will be analyzed by groups and as a class. The contents of the modules are:
- Anatomophysiology of the urinary system
- Pathophysiology of the urinary system
- Classification of incontinence
- Overactive bladder
- Diagnostic methods
- Conservative treatment
- Medical-surgical treatment
- Case 1: Postpartum woman with stress urinary incontinence
- Case 2: Peperimenopausal woman with mixed urinary incontinence
- Case 3: Man with urge urinary incontinence
- Case 4: Man with post-radical prostatectomy incontinence
Tuition fee

Certificate of attendance
Course participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Attendance to 80% or more of the sessions is required to obtain it.
