Objectives

Main objectives and skills

The main objectives of the course are to enhance the ability of students:

  • To identify, review and critically analyse a wide range of sources on peace, security and conflict.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge on the main theories on root causes of conflicts and cultures of violence.
  • To explore conditions for sustainable peace and to learn about successful peacebuilding initiatives.
  • To critically engage with peace and security policies at an international level using a comparative perspective.
  • To learn about cross-cutting issues concerning peace, security and conflict from different perspectives.
  • To acquire and put into practice conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills.
