SPESS PhD academic information on length of studies
Length of studies
PhD studies (Art. 3.2 of RD 99/2011) last a maximum of three years, full-time, from admission of the doctoral student to the program until presentation of the doctoral thesis (admission date on file). A request may be made to the Academic Committee for two extensions of one year each. However, part-time PhD studies may be completed with the prior authorization of the Academic Committee. In this case, these studies may last a maximum of five years from admission to the program until presentation of the doctoral thesis (admission date on file), and an extension can be requested for another two years, which could be exceptionally extended for an additional year.
The duly justified request must be addressed to the Academic Committee responsible for the program. For more details, see Rule C3.5 of the General Rules for PhD Organization at Ramon Llull University.
