EIDOS: Culture and communication studies

We are in the midst of a process of historical change, and we are witnessing the birth of a new cultural paradigm. The digital revolution has shaken the world of culture and communication. EIDOS is an interdisciplinary research network, made up of specialists from the fields of sociology, history, philosophy and communication theory. This research group studies the cultural changes that have taken place in contemporary society, which involve the creation of new content and new forms of access and cultural participation.

Group work areas

Sociology of culture and communication. Studies the different forms of cultural creation, circulation and participation in contemporary society. Analyzes the impact of the use of digital technology in the production and dissemination of knowledge and audio-visual content.

Public opinion and collective memory. The digitization of information has set in motion a process of personalization and selection of topics that power the dynamics of public opinion generation. New personal and social information consumption habits risk polarizing political positions, but can also create new spaces for public interaction.

Audio-visual communication in the digital age. Contemporary culture makes audio-visual products accessible to all, both in terms of consumption and production. Images, sound and music comprise the symbolism with which the citizens of today represent and explain the world.

The digital divide and intergenerational conflicts. We want to explore the extent to which there is a “digital divide” between adolescents, parents and teachers and what impact this has on the perceptions and fears of the latter groupings regarding the use of ICTs by the former.

Journalistic ethics in the treatment of discriminated groups. The aim of this line of work is to study the ethical responsibility of journalism in the treatment of information, especially in situations of conflict.
