Blanquerna-URL launches the first double degree in Psychology and Human Nutrition and Dietetics in Catalonia and Spain.

March 2, 2026

The new academic offering integrates nutritional health and mental well-being to train professionals with an interdisciplinary perspective.

Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull is the first university in Catalonia and across Spain to offer a double major in Psychology and Human Nutrition and Dietetics. This new program responds to a paradigm shift in how we understand health. Today, health can no longer be viewed in isolated compartments; instead, it requires an integrative approach that connects body and mind.

Current scientific evidence clearly shows the close link between nutrition and mental health. The so-called gut-brain axis highlights how the microbiota, inflammation, emotional regulation, and eating behavior constantly interact. This interplay is especially evident in eating disorders and in disorders of the gut-brain interaction, such as irritable bowel syndrome, where emotional comorbidity is very high.

In this context, Blanquerna is launching a double major designed to train professionals capable of integrating biology and behavior, metabolism and mind—"uniting the two brains"and supporting change processes from both a clinical and psychosocial perspective. An integrated and highly professionalizing pathway

The double major is delivered in person, lasts 5.5 years, and totals 396 credits, with teaching in Catalan and Spanish. The schedule structure combines Nutrition in the morning and Psychology in the afternoon, making it easier to study both simultaneously.

The pedagogical model emphasizes personalized learning, with small-group seminars (10–12 students), high-fidelity simulations to train clinical skills, interdisciplinary and interprofessional learning spaces (NEXUS), and individualized tutoring that promotes interdisciplinary reflection.

Connection to the professional world is a core pillar of the program: it includes nearly 800 hours of internships across more than a thousand centers, and it operates within an environment with a 95% employment placement rate.

Career opportunities with a cross-cutting perspective

This dual training creates a particularly valuable profile in clinical and healthcare settings (hospitals, primary care, eating disorder units, interdisciplinary teams), in public and community health, in education and lifelong guidance, in organizations and industry—including corporate wellness and scientific communication—and in interdisciplinary research in health psychology and clinical nutrition.
