Wim Wenders, the painter who fell in love with cinema
Last Friday, the prestigious filmmaker Wim Wenders, director of films such as Paris, Texas and The Sky Over Berlin, paid a visit to the School.
Wenders held a talk with the director of the bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Communication, Dr. Elisabet Cabeza, at the BCN Film Fest. The visit packed out the auditorium with students and professionals from the world of cinema.
Wenders, a filmmaker from a very young age, revealed that his passion originated in Paris, where he was a painter and discovered his true vocation: cinema. "Everything I know about filmmaking I know thanks to painting." "I would go to the Cinémathèque to see films, but as I didn't have much money I would hide in the bathroom between films." He joked that it was a very good trick: "3 francs was 3 films, or 4 if you went to the bathroom."
The film director dedicated some words to the recently deceased Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura, a friend and colleague whom he met when Wenders was very young and Saura was filming Ana y los lobos. With an extensive portfolio, Wenders will take part in the forthcoming edition of the Cannes Film Festival, with his latest feature film Perfect Days in the official competition section and a 3D documentary, Anselm, out of competition.
