Our students win the ESLAND 2023 award for best Twitch news coverage

March 3, 2023

Alumnus Carles Monfort (Journalism and Corporate Communication, 2022) and current Journalism and Corporate Communication student Juli Claramunt are part of the Jijantes team: the Twitch channel run by sports journalist Gerard Romero, who has received the ESLAND 2023 award for the best news coverage on the platform.

These awards, presented on January 29, celebrate the creativity and talent of the best live content creators in the Spanish-speaking community. Juli tells us how he contacted the head of Jijantes, Gerard Romero, and how he is finding the experience.

- What is your role in Jijantes, and when and how did you join?

My role at Jijantes is to go and cover what's on every day, do the live tweets, the highlights and make videos for Instagram and TikTok.
I joined because when I was in high school, I sent a message to Gerard Romero and we started talking. When he hit 10,000 followers on Twitch, I made him a highlight video and he liked it. Then I became part of the Jijantes project.

- How did Gerard Romero's project win the ESLAND 2023 award?

I suppose that because of his way of entertaining and reporting, as well as his many quality sources, he has managed to create the perfect cocktail: being a brand and creating a means of communication that gives young people the opportunity to do an internship in a real job.
