Emerson and Blanquerna, the beginning of a prosperous future

Emerson and Blanquerna, the beginning of a prosperous future

February 5, 2018

An official plate was hung by the president of Emerson College, Dr. Lee Pelton and our Dean, Dr. Josep Maria Carbonell, during the Cross Cultural Communication Conference hosted by our School. Even though both universities have been collaborating for 20 years through the organisation of events and the exchange of students, this relationship will now prosper further as Blanquerna has officially become Emerson College’s main academic representative in Europe.

“If you want to run fast, run alone, if you want to run far, run together and that is what we are doing with Blanquerna”, said Dr. Pelton during the inaugural ceremony that took place in the School’s foyer. With the presence of a strong delegation from the American institution, Dr. Pelton was emphatic: “We will be victorious because we are running together”.

An international hub with history

Dr. Carbonell pointed out that it's been around 20 years now since the first memorandum of understanding was signed between Emerson and Blanquerna. At the same time, when Barcelona became a mediterranean hub, hosting the 1992 Olympics, our institutions ran side by side with a similar international aim. “Emerson has an aspiration to be the global hub for arts and communication”, Dr. Pelton said. A challenging aspiration, no doubt, “but it is one that we are determined to achieve”, he added. “We have many friends around the world, but this partnership is very special: both because of history, friendship and, of course, our program level”.

During his speech, Dr. Carbonell stated the pillars between both institutions: “We hold four important similarities with Emerson College, our commitment to build a better world, our spirit of education, our engagement in the industry and our international perspective.” After much collaboration and great progress, a special partner has been established, Emerson College.

A Global Communication Center

Corresponding with the opening of a new degree in Global Communication Management, taught entirely in English and located here in Barcelona, president Pelton launched with us, the Global Communication Center, an organization that will establish the parameters of this joint project that will include professors, exchanges, events, etc. This sets up a first step in the creation of a joint undergraduate degree that will include a possibility of great appeal for our students: to start studying in Barcelona and to end, four years later, with a Master’s degree in Boston, Massachusetts.
