Blanquerna Research Scholarships

Scholarships announced by Blanquerna schools for master degree and PhD students with the aim of promoting the training of young researchers and supporting research groups. The announcement is made public on the bulletin boards of the schools and on the website. The announcement is published depending on the availability of places.

Terms and conditions of the announcement for grants for pre-doctoral research staff in training (EPIF) at the Blanquerna-URL School of Communication and International Relations

The Ramon Llull University Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations is announcing 1 grant as part of the Statute of Research Staff in Training (EPIF) for a period of 3 years.

The objective of the announcement is to encourage and promote the presentation of high-quality PhD theses in one of the following lines of research:

- Sociology of communication. This includes the study of social conflict, the media treatment and social perception of violence, the digital divide and intergenerational conflicts, as well as the representation of the other in the new media.

- Business communication. This includes a broad range of subjects: communication audits, the role of communication strategies to bring about change in organizations, corporate communication strategies, new trends in branding, public relations and corporate culture, advertising creativity and planning, issue management and using new technologies in political communication.

- Cinema and television. Politics and cultural identity through media, audio-visual and transmedia narratives, identity in cinema, television and transmedia. The convergence between cultural citizenship and television and new forms of film exhibition in the digital age.

- Technology, society and communication. This includes subjects such as studying the impact of technology on journalistic and communicative practices, media convergence, journalistic responsibility and ethics, technology and communication policies, as well as technology and media regulation. It also includes the link between religion, communication and culture, and related aspects in the media representation of groups and communities.

- Journalism, politics and democracy. Research projects are being undertaken in relation to political engagement, media and citizenship, international communication, professional journalism, participation and active audiences in the digital public setting, in addition to others.

- International relations. This includes the study and research of the field of international affairs, ranging from the historical, political, economic, cultural, legal, sociological and communication perspectives of globalization. Research projects on the commitment of various social actors in globalization are being undertaken at this school.

Conditions of the grant:

- Free enrollment to the PhD program in Communication at the Ramon Llull University Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations.

- Initial gross annual remuneration of 16,720.13 euros per year.

- Incorporation into an FCRIB research group recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

- The grant will be for 3 years for completion of the PhD thesis.

Responsibility of the recipient

- To carry out the PhD thesis on one of the priority topics described above.

- To collaborate actively with the assigned research group.

- To eventually conduct research and teaching tasks as part of the assigned research group.

- To finish the PhD thesis within the established deadline.

- To start work at the Research Institute on October 1, 2022.

Requirements

- Holder of a bachelor degree or undergraduate degree in any discipline of the social sciences, especially those linked to Communication and International Relations.

- Holder of a university master degree or be studying for such during the 2021-2022 academic year, and able to provide proof of obtaining the degree before September 30, 2022.

- Advanced knowledge (accreditable) of English.

Documentation

Applicants must send the following documentation to the Research and Graduate Studies Secretary's office:

- Defended proposal of the research project for the PhD thesis and link to the priority lines of research. (3,000 words).

- Official academic certification of the bachelor degree and/or master degree completed.

- Accreditation of knowledge of English or Spanish for applicants from countries where this is not an official language.

Application deadlines and documentation can be submitted until July 18, 2022 by email to [email protected].

On awarding the scholarship, the following aspects will be valued:

- the quality of the proposal presented.

- the relationship with priority areas of research.

- the fit with the needs of the research groups.

- academic record.

- level of English.

- proposal to be made within a group that has not benefited from the EPIF scholarship in previous announcements.

Resolution

- Applications submitted will be assessed by the PhD Program Academic Committee.

- The resolution on the announcement will be made public by July 29, 2022.

- The announcement may be rendered void.

- Applicants will start work as of October 1, 2022 at c. Tallers, 77, the site of the Research Institute of the School of Communications and International Relations.
