What books have been published by the Blanquerna-URL faculty in 2023?

December 22, 2023

It is always a good time to recommend literature, and even more so at a time when details take on so much importance

2023 is coming to an end and this is the perfect excuse to take a look back and review everything that has happened over the past few months. It is exciting to see that, among all the projects that have been carried out, many books have been published by professors who are part of the university. The list of all the publications is extensive, so we have had to make a selection of those that we have found especially interesting.

  • L’escola, casa de lectura
    Mar Esteve Ràfols
(School, the home of reading) The book is a journey through the personal experiences that have most marked Mar Esteve in the practice and concept of reading, from childhood to adulthood as a mother and teacher. While the first part of the book is a more philosophical discussion, the second part offers interesting ideas and practices. According to the author, "You don't start reading when you learn to decipher letters, but when someone tells you a story and moves you. And it is here that school plays a crucial role".

  • L’òpera catalana: síntesi històrica
    Jaume Radigales
(Catalan opera: a historical synthesis) This is the first historical synthesis of Catalan opera, a journey through over two hundred years of creation that highlights the catalogue of works by well-known authors and others who have remained in the shadows. Radigales won the first edition of the Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya Musical Essay Prize with this book, and Xavier Albertí —director, actor, theatre manager and composer— argues for the need to programme the works mentioned.

  • Jedwabne. Una història universal##44441##David Serrano Blanquer##44441## (Jedwabne. A universal story) This is the story of Jedwabne, a Polish town marked by brutal violence against Jews. It is estimated that on the tenth of July 1941, the day chosen for the massacre, around 1,600 people died, regardless of gender or age. Serrano has reconstructed the story from archives, interviews with relatives of the survivors and by travelling to the site of the events. The work exudes the human evil embodied in Nazism and its followers, the perpetrators of the HaShoah.

  • Unico grande amore
    Toni Padilla
This is a tour of fifty Italian cities that the author travels through to discover their history, language, music, gastronomy, cinema, painting, landscapes and his fascination with football. Written in detailed prose, it is a guide to savouring goals and returning to the noise the ball makes when it hits the water after fizzing out of the stadium of Venezia FC, the adventures of Atalanta's most famous ultra, the stories that continue to be told of Maradona in Naples and the impossible love Gigi Riva felt for Sardinia.

  • Cancelled: The Left Way Back from Woke
    D'Umut Özkirimli
The author reveals how the left has been sucked into a spiral of toxic rage and provocative outrage, retreating from the democratic ideals of freedom and pluralism it supposedly represents. Exploring the similarities between right-wing populism and radical identity politics, he lays out an alternative vision. It is only by focusing on our common humanity and working across differences that the left will find a constructive and consensual way back from 'woke' (socially conscious awakening). In this provocative book, Özkirimli analyses cancel culture that was birthed in the United States but has now spread globally.

  • La terapia familiar. Una mirada psicoanalítica y sistémica
Carles Pérez Testor i Anna Vilaregut
(Family therapy. A psychoanalytic and systemic perspective) A necessary update of family therapy to broaden its limits and propose a true dialogue with the goal of understanding and treating family suffering. The book is the result of the need to approach the family as an object of study, focusing on complexity, funds, difficulties and pathologies. Carles Pérez Testor and Anna Vilaregut, together with a select group of authors, members of the Blanquerna-URL Couple and Family Research Group, bring an important tool for updating therapists while at the same time making it easier for psychology and medicine students in training to integrate the various approaches.

If you are still craving for more, here is the full list of all the books published by our professors in 2023.
