July 20, 2023

Rafa Villar, a first-year student of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at the School of Psychology, Education and Sports Sciences, has made history this July after becoming the U-19 basketball world champion with his team.

The Championship was held in Debrecen (Hungary), where the Spanish U-19 team took the title after a thrilling game against France.

Villar, who plays as a point guard, was a key player in the final, playing thirty-nine minutes on the court and scoring a total of seventeen points, which made him a cornerstone in his team's victory. The achievement is doubly historic because it is the first time since 1999 that the Spanish national team has won this prestigious championship.

As for his sporting career, Rafa is signed to FC Barcelona, although this season he has also had the opportunity to develop in the Força Lleida in the LEB Oro league.

This outstanding victory in the U19 World Basketball Championship has established Rafa Villar as a promising player in Spanish basketball. His career will undoubtedly continue to rise.
