Professor Emilio Morenatti receives a Pulitzer Prize

June 15, 2021

The Associated Press photojournalist and director of photography for Spain and Portugal collaborates with the Master's Degree in Advanced Journalism in the module on photojournalism.

Emilio Morenatti is the latest winner of the Pulitzer Prize for the best photographic report of Journalism 2021 for his set of photographs on the pandemic taken in Barcelona. The jury highlights that they are "moving" photographs that "lead the public into the life of the elderly in Spain during the pandemic."

Key piece of photojournalism in the classroom

As every year, Morenatti has also participated this 2020-2021 academic year in the module on photojournalism of the Master's Degree in Advanced Journalism. Reporting in person despite the pandemic, in the company of the professor of the degree in Journalism and Corporate Communication, Sandra Balsells.

In his class, Morenatti reviewed his intense and prestigious career as an international photojournalist —he also has a World Press Photo award in his record— and commented on some of the most relevant photographs of his career, from the beginning of it until today. Morenatti put special emphasis on highlighting the importance of publishing only relevant photos that provide information and context: "The most important thing is to publish a single photo that defines what is happening," he concluded.
