Blanquerna FCRI is offering two doctoral scholarships

Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations at the Ramon Llull University is offering two doctoral scholarships for a period of 3 or 4 years, depending on the type. The object of the call is to promote high-quality doctoral theses in one of the following areas of research:

  • Changes in professional profiles in the media as a consequence of digital transformations;
  • New business models in the communication sector within the digital environment;
  • New challenges for music and communication in the 21st Century;
  • Participatory audiences as a countervailing power of the Fourth Estate;
  • City branding and in particular the positioning of smart cities;
  • Consumers and sustainable mobility, consumer perceptions and behaviour in new trends in sustainable mobility and transport;
  • Communication strategies in the transport sector in relation to electric vehicles;
  • Alterity and ethics in media representations. Audiovisual approach to difference;
  • Agenda setting and social networks;
  • Media convergence;
  • Active audiences and journalism. Analysis of the quality of usergenerated content (UGC).
  • Media polity. Media and Democracy. Media Regulation

Terms and conditions of the scholarship

  • Free registration for the doctoral program in Communication at Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations at Ramon Llull University.
  • If the candidate does not meet the legal requirements to apply for the doctorate, free registration for one of the 6 official master’s degrees offered by the School and which allow access to the doctorate.
  • allowance of 12700€ on average for the four years (9.071€ + 9.071€ + 16.461€ + 16.461€)
  • Joining a Blanquerna FCRI research group recognised by the Catalan Government.
  • Start date for the scholarship: between the 30th of November 2015 and the 8th of January 2016, depending on the type of scholarship.
  • The duration of the scholarship shall be 3 years for a doctoral thesis. In the event that the selected candidate is to study a master’s degree beforehand, the duration shall be 4 years.

Scholars’ responsibilities

  • Write a doctoral thesis on one of the main areas of research previously described.
  • Actively collaborate in the assigned research group.
  • Possibly give support to research and teaching tasks within the research group.
  • Finish the doctoral thesis within the deadline prescribed.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates will:

  • Have a graduate or bachelor’s degree in a social science discipline, and in particular in one linked to Communication;
  • Preferably have a master’s degree, although this is not a prerequisite. If they do not have one, they shall have to take it at the School;
  • Have a good command of Spanish and English;

Submit the following documentation to the Registrar’s Office for Research and Postgraduate Programs:

  • Application form (it may be downloaded or requested from [email protected]);
  • Argued proposal of the research project for the doctoral thesis and how it links to the main areas of research (3,000 words);
  • University transcripts for undergraduate and/or master’s degree;
  • Certificate attesting knowledge of English, and of Spanish for candidates from countries where this is not an official language.

Application procedure

The application form and documents may be submitted up until the 20th of November 2015 by e-mail to [email protected].

In awarding the scholarship, the following aspects shall be given special consideration:

  1. The quality of the proposal and the relation with the priority areas of research;
  2. Academic record.

Resolution of the call Scholarship applications shall be evaluated by the Doctoral Program Academic Committee. The results of the call shall be published at the latest on the 30th of November 2015. The call may be cancelled.
