The Official Master's Degree in English Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood and Primary Education aims to provide specific training in the field of additional language teaching with the goal of ensuring that teachers are capable of:

  • Guaranteeing a language teaching process that is coherent and high-quality for all children throughout early childhood education and primary school.
  • Teaching foreign language effectively by mastering and using the educational variables that come into play in all English teaching and learning processes.
  • Acting as change agents at school by bringing their theoretical and practical knowledge to the development of multilingual awareness inside and outside the classroom.
  • Leading the design and implementation of integrative language projects in early childhood and primary schools.

Specific competences

  • Apply the scientific fundamentals of language teaching and learning processes into educational intervention. 
  • Forge connections between the specific theoretical knowledge on foreign language teaching and the variables that intervene in the classroom, and they will adapt this knowledge to the overall curricular framework and the school setting in particular. 
  • Design, carry out and assess coherent educational itineraries in the field of languages for Early Childhood and Primary education. 
  • Design, manage and promote global educational projects that foster the development of plurilingual and intercultural competency according to the requirements of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • Analyse and assess the development of linguistic competency during the stages of Early Childhood and Primary education, in terms of the process of first and foreign language acquisition in accordance with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • Act as critically aware teachers in the design, carrying out and assessment of innovative educational activities in the field of foreign language teaching. 
  • Convey and instil in others a sense of openness and respect for other languages and cultures in order to further the development of intercultural competency and encourage reflection in this area, in accordance with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • Exhibit proficiency in oral and written communication in the foreign language and be able to carry out all functions associated with the tasks of a teacher in this language.
  • Demonstrate their knowledge of English phonetics, grammar, usage and discourse.
  • Design, implement and assess innovative and creative educational materials while ensuring that said materials are appropriate to their specific school context.
