Objectives

  • To integrate the concept of holistic health according to the guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO) into the practice of the exercise of general health psychology.
  • To learn about the framework of professional action and the legal norms currently in place in order to be able to apply the fundamentals of bioethics and critical analysis in sources of clinical information in processes of evaluation, intervention and referrals to the right specialists.
  • To know how to write psychological reports appropriate for their recipients.
  • To possess communication skills with patients, family members and caregivers in the entire process of professional performance, from the first interview to the evaluation, the intervention and the follow-up.
  • To have knowledge of the nature of normal and pathological human behaviour as well as the social and biological factors that can affect it.
  • To have knowledge of the biological, psychological and psychosocial factors associated with health problems and illness, especially those related to mental health.
  • To have theoretical and practical knowledge of evaluation and intervention models, as well as the most common techniques and procedures used to address health problems.
  • To know how to design, carry out and supervise the psychological evaluation process and intervention programmes depending on the individual and social variables in each case.
  • To know how to develop promotional and educational activities for individual and community psychological health.

Competences 

  • To acquire, develop and put into practice the notions within the concept of holistic health with its biological, psychological and social components in accordance with the guidelines established by the WHO.
  • To apply the fundamentals of bioethics and the deliberation method in professional practice.
  • To demonstrate interpersonal communication skills and appropriate emotional management in an effective intervention with patients, family members and caregivers in the processes of identifying the psychological problem, evaluation, sharing the diagnosis, intervention and follow-up.
  • To critically analyse and use sources of clinical information.
  • To write psychological reports appropriate for their recipients.
  • To understand the framework of action of general health psychology and to know how to make referrals to the right professional specialist.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of the psychological nature of human behaviour as well as the social and biological factors that can affect it.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of the psychological nature of human behaviour disorders.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of the psychosocial factors associated with health problems and illness.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of biological and psychosocial factors associated with health problems and illness, especially those related to mental health.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of the evaluation and intervention models in the field of general psychology, as well as the most common techniques and procedures used in this discipline to address health problems.
  • To know how to plan, carry out and supervise the psychological behaviour evaluation process and the psychological factors associated with health problems.
  • To design, develop, supervise and evaluate psychological intervention plans and programmes depending on the evaluation performed and the individual and social variables in each case.
  • To be aware of the regulations in force in the Spanish healthcare system.
  • To engage in promotional and educational activities for individual and community psychological health.
