Final Degree Project

1. Presentation

The end-of –degree project (TFG) aims to integrate all the educational contents and competences acquired over the four-year course. The main objective of this is to assess the basic competences associated with the degree.

It involves the Student preparing, presenting and defending the protocol of an original research project related to an area of knowledge within the modules of the study programme of the EHEA degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

The student must therefore display mastery of the competences defined in the programme.

2. Description of work strategy

The TFG is an individual project. It can be written in Spanish or Catalan, but must include a summary in English and in Catalan or Spanish.
The length of the work will be between 20 and 30 pages; and annexes are not included.
Letter type is Arial, size 12 with 1.5 between lines; upper and lower margins must be2. 5 cm and right and left at 3 cm.

3. Follow-up

The TFG is a tutored project. It is done during a semester (the second of the fourth-year of the degree) and is supervised by a teacher or tutor involved in teaching. The student must attend 4 tutorials.

The role of the tutor is to assist and provide the student with methodological orientation throughout the process of preparation of the TFG, during preparation, preparation and defence. The learning process and the development of the project will also be assessed and go-ahead will be given when it is felt that the specific requisites of the TFG have been met.

The phases of the TFG involve different steps and, as a reference, the following are recommended:

3.1. Selecting the subject and assigning a tutor: October-November

Choosing the subject of the TFG and assigning the tutor are based on recommendations made by the FCSB in accordance with the different areas of knowledge.

3.2. First interview with the tutor: December

The student must present a draft of the project plan: declaration of intentions (20 lines), index, hypothesis and objectives; and also basic bibliography.

3.3. Development of the project: January-March (first examination) or January-May (second examination)

The student will do a self-directed project and, periodically, will meet his/her tutor to assess progress, set rules and establish dates to see each other.


3.4. Handing in the project: last week of March (first examination) or first week of May (second examination)


3.5. Public presentation and defence: last week of May and first week of June (first examination) or last week of June and first week of July (second examination)
 

4. Assessment

Assessment of the TFG includes 4 parts:

4.1. Follow-up

Continuous follow-up of the development of the projects provided by the tutor. During this process the tutor will assess:

• How the project is addressed
• Recognition on the part of the student of the multidimensional nature of problems
• The use of the appropriate resources to research information
• Critical analysis of the value and applicability of the sources of information used de les fonts
• Ability to synthesise information
• The ability to relate the data obtained to prior knowledge
• Ordered presentation of information
• Clear and precise expression
• The ability to formulate questions about the situations
• Justification of comments with appropriate references and arguments
• Meeting the tutor’s terms and requirements

4.2. The written project

The written TFG is assessed by a tribunal made up of two degree teachers. To avoid any conflict of interests the tutor cannot be part of this tribunal. The aspects to be assessed are following:

• Formal presentation of the project
• Linguistic correction
• Level of insight into antecedents and the present state of the subject
• Justification of the proposal
• Level of innovation
• Adequacy and clarity of the research question (hypothesis and objectives)
• Correction and convenience of bibliographic resources
• Methodological design and development
• Scientific level of the project

4.3. Public defence and presentation of the project

To be able to defend the project, the student must have obtained authorisation from his/her tutor and the blessing of the tribunal which has assessed the written TFG. The same tribunal will assess the presentation and defence in accordance with the following:

• Choice and order of ideas
• Accuracy of language used
• Mastery of the subject
• Ability to synthesise and solidity of the presentation
  Clear and precise transmission of project content
• Effectiveness of visual support
• Ability to attract the audience’s attention
• Correct response to the tribunal’s questions

4.4. Final mark

The final mark is based on continuous assessment marks (30%), a written project (45%) and the presentation and defence of the project (25%). In order to pass the TFG component all three of the previous parts must be passed independently, meaning that they must be passed both by the tutor and the tribunal.
