English at the School

The Blanquerna-URL School of Psychology, Education and Sports Sciences has always chosen to include English language proficiency in the competencies that define the professional profiles of each of our studies. This competency is included in the teaching plans of each bachelor degree course, with the aim of giving more training opportunities to our students and a better guarantee for their achievement.

Thus, in Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Management, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology studies, students have mandatory English courses within their 2nd academic year curriculum (annual course of 6 ECTS with 3 in-person classes per week) to acquire these skills. In the case of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, students are required to achieve level B2 English language skills in their thesis. Students of the Bachelor Degree in Primary Education (English) have their own path in terms of English language proficiency.

Students at our school can also improve their English proficiency by taking advantage of different opportunities that the School offers them through other learning spaces, such as in some 3rd or 4th year modules, depending on the course of study, in subjects taught in the CLIL modality (content language integrated learning), in the bachelor degree thesis, or the opportunity to participate in international programs. In addition, the School offers university extension courses of different levels that the student can take throughout their bachelor degree course at any time. These courses are taught during the first and second semesters at lunchtimes, and also during the first fortnight of July in intensive schedule. On the other hand, students and professors have access to the Language Self-Learning Classroom, as an additional resource to the aforementioned training offering.

Thanks to an agreement signed between the Blanquerna Foundation and Oxford University Press, the School is an official examination center for the Oxford Test of English (OTE). Students of the School can obtain - alongside their bachelor degree - the B2 level certificate certified by Oxford University, in accordance with the levels set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
